ARTIST BIO

I am a retired teacher, after many years I decided my time has come to follow my love of colour and natural processes. I started making botanical impressions in clay blocks and casting them in a fine hard plaster. This appealed to my fascination with the structures nature builds. I moved on to using resin which is also very satisfying as it mimics natural processes according to the densities of the pigments and resin itself. Resin is an expensive and unpredictable medium. It can make some amazing effects such as cells, ribbons, waves and lacing, give amazing depth and dimension as well as a lovely glassy finish.

I have spent a lot of time over the past couple of years grappling with the medium and experimenting to understand its possibilities and the way different brands and types of resin behave under different conditions, temperature andumidity affects how it cures and dust is very hard to ward off. Pigments also behave differently and I variously use ink, specialty oil-based resin pigments, acrylics, micas and powdered pigments. Some pieces have several layers of resin (such as "Nebula") whereas "The Ocean Blue" has one thick layer with some texture on the surface which I left intentionally because it adds to the sense of movement in the work.

Last year I exhibited at Raw Exhibition (Flemington, Melbourne) and at Piccante Gallery (Brunswick). A couple of design boutiques in Melbourne have exhibited my paintings and are stocking my jewellery. I am delighted that my first art show is at Warranwood at Steiner.

I was featured last year in the inaugural issue of The Art Network Magazine : The Art Network Feature Artist
